The earth is like an old woman

rattling her tin for coppers

and hoping to buy a sandwich to

keep body and soul together.

Instead of coins though they make

her pay more and more

until her flesh has shrunken and

her energy leeched.

No sandwich, no hope,

then children loudly shout

out, “Now is the time,

to RENEW your minds!

RENEW the earth!

and let her again

be

our

Mother!”
