Britain’s Future

Walking in town,

once there was join our diversity,

listening to the TV

once there was good independent reporting,

but some prefer oil,

and sow,

now

the destruction of those that were loyal.

——

Waking early,

once there was the dawn chorus,

sitting in the garden,

once there was a hum of bees,

but some prefer glyphosate,

and so,

now

the silence is shockingly growing at each gate.

—-

Walking to the shops,

once there was money in the poor woman’s purse,

planning a Birthday,

once there would have been a feast,

but some prefer their backers,

and so,

now

the policies are empty papery crackers.

—–

Praying on my knees,

once there was a flow of thankfulness,

crying in my room,

once I could find some ease,

but some prefer greed,

and so,

now

we can just for justice plead.
