(A Ship of Fools on the Rocks)
terrible images move on the screen, behind my eyes and in my brain,
grafting in me the fear that death and hell are let loose in every terrain,
gradually the shape of human kindness like milk looses its savour,
and pools ungraciously in the stink of the piles of rotting human flesh.
——–
humanity has crashed on the rocks, a burning ship of fools,
looking down the tunnels of narrow thinking, hatred and greed,
looking out from the factories making money over hand as
they make weapons that pierce the flesh of a frightened child.
——
graves in their thousands now grace the land, small mounds
where tears, anger, rage and impotence temper the earth,
blind, deaf and dumb to possibilities, choosing profitability
overlaying the violence with wild accusations and lies.
—-
no one wins in war – there are only losers,
and bodies, destruction and
a battered earth,
with no voice,
that gave life
which,
unthinking humans
seek to self destruct.
