Christmas 2024

The cold is slowing our brains

as we sit in unheated homes

the dirty water in our mains,

and still bitter Covid roams.

Children wanting this and that,

poor parents pulled into a trap,

Grandparents only affording tat,

and still the prices – where’s the cap?

There’s a Christmas sparkly Fairy,

and lights on our empty streets,

everyone looks and is so very weary

only a few can buy Christmas Treats.

Where are the weeping angels?

Holding babies blown to bits.

the shepherds? killed by bombs.

Where is Jesus? He weeps.

the wise men? buried in tombs.

Christ’s birth shows us God’s grace,.

no conditions love poured everywhere,,

He calls us each to seek his face,

and build a place,

Love reigns there,

and hunger’s gone.

Justice and all is fair,

Crime unnecessary.

All children healthy.

The blind look on their own,

The deaf hear the lark sing.

The lame dance. None alone,

and the old are forever young.
