The Fragrant Blessing of Hope

Mary speaks part 2

I cannot go on.

My heart is dead,

a blackness entered my soul

and his battered body

is ever before my face.

I am empty,

any pride in him is gone.

Was any of it true?

Oh I need Joseph

he would remind me

of the words of

angels,

God sent

around his birth.

He is not here either.

I cannot go on.

John is here,

he is broken too.

he holds my hand

and says that God is somewhere in this.

The hammering on the door,

someone is calling to be let in,

I look to hide.

Will they now come for me, his mother?

“It is me, Mary Magdalene,”

she calls through the door.

“I have good news.”

John goes to the door,

the tears on his dear face.

We stand in shock.

She looks radiant,

joy shines from her eyes,

she hardly pauses for breath…

“I have seen Jesus, He is alive.

He has risen from the dead.

I have spoken to him.

I thought he was the gardener,

we had gone to the tomb

to anoint his body,

he wasn’t there

the stone was rolled away,

the others left but I stayed.

I really thought he was the gardener.

I thought someone had stolen his body,

But they hadn’t.

He told me to come and

tell everyone the good news.

We are to go to Galilee to meet him.”

I reached out for Mary,

to feel her joy.

and we clung together,

and I suddenly saw.

We had both been commissioned,

by God no less.

We had both seen fiery angels

that spoke God’s word.

I encouraged her:

An angel spoke to you

and God has given you

your commission,

to tell the world:

He is risen!

And to tell

His story.

God has spoken,

women have a task.

We are to reveal Jesus

to the world,

in every generation,

to shower the earth

with forgiveness,

love

and the fragrant Blessing of Hope.
