There it lay;
cupped by my hand,
warming my skin,
so many times before,
a thousand times and more,
I warmed to his sacrifice,
yet this moment,
came, now:
a scrap of flour and water,
spoke his name, His prescience,
burned with holiness and divinity,
left his sacrificial body heat,
invisible, holy,
the Body and Blood
of Christ; the Holy one of God.
—
I held my hand as something now holy,
feeling cherished and loved
and felt it leave,
bereft,
quiet,
I waited
in His absence
loved.
